john logan knox
so so this is the interview application application. explain your character through a series of conventional and unconventional questions.
BASICS
what is your full name? nicknames? age? birthday?: John Logan Knox. Close friends call me 'Johnny' or 'Knox'. I'll answer to those, to John, to Mr. Knox. Just keep it polite. I'm a fresh 25, but I feel a lot older than that. My birthday is May 28th.
are you a brookwell high school student or a university student? oh, oops, are you a local or a teacher? if you are a teacher or a local, what is your job?: I once went to Brookwell and surprisingly graduated. Everyone was certain I would drop out and most of my friends there did. I did go to University, earned my Business degree. Now, I'm just a local. I took over my dad's business, he had his hand in a little bit of everything. He owns and I run Bluefin restaurant in TriBeCa and Paradou in Chelsea as well as the Birdland Jazz Club and Marquee night club. The last thing he did was purchase the Majestic Theatre that runs Phantom of the Opera. So, yeah, my hands are in everything, but I also have my own business...it's a little more under the table, though.
how boring. let's get into the juice stuff, are you taken? married? in love? or are you single and free? and are you happy with your relationship status?: I'm single and free, that's how I like it. The only girls in my life are my mom and the mother of my kid, but she and I haven't been together in years. Look, I'm not against a relationship, I just don't really want to make the time for one. It's not high on my list of things to do.
where were you born? are you an american citizen or do you have citizenship in other countries as well? and what is your background, like your family background?: I was born in Hoboken, New Jersey which is about as close to New York as you can get without being in it. We never moved out of there, but I was kicked out of enough schools there to have my parents send me to Brookwell. The three train rides there and back weren't too shabby. My mom was very much a Jersey girl and my father straight New York.
whats a typical day like for you? like, take us through your morning routine? do you even eat breakfast, you know it's the most important meal of the day, right? It depends on a number of things. What day of the week is it? Is Tanner staying with me that day? What time of year is it? What's traffic like? My days are always different which is what I like. Life is too short to live the same day twice. Generally, I go to bed late and wake up early even on days where Tanner is staying with me. He's only just three so he still goes to bed at a time that allows me to get my work done after hours. Despite being a businessman, I don't attend a lot of meetings and conferences. I prefer to do things solo or one on one. I have an office in every business and you never know which one I'll be in. I like the clients I've made on my own over the ones that have been invested since my dad ran the show. They don't get me, they probably don't like me, and if they knew what I like to dabble in, they would take their stocks and run. I have coffee for breakfast, sometimes a bagel, I work out while negotiating on Bluetooth, and then work whenever I work. I don't set hours. My phone doesn't even go off when I'm hanging out with Tanner, I just might not answer it right away.

POINT OF VIEW
what is your opinion on love?: It's out there and it's great. It just has to be really unique for me to make the time for it. It's not my top priority, I don't stress over it, I've felt it once romantically, but love didn't really become real to me until Tanner was born. That is true freaking love.
what is your opinion on family?: Most important thing in the world and you have to protect it like that.
what is your opinion on soul mates?: They probably exist, that doesn't mean you're going to be with them or necessarily should be.
what is your opinion on violence?: I've got enough blood on my hands to say it works, but it's not my favorite thing and I don't think it should be used unless necessary. Some people bring it into situations that don't require it, they just have a fascination with it. I use it appropriately and sparingly. Usually, I don't have to.
what is your opinion on truth; does it even exist?: … I think that's a matter of opinion.
LOVE LIFE
what was your last relationship?: Technically, Trish, a waitress at Bluefin. We've fooled around since I started working there at 21, shadowing my Dad, but I don't really include her as anything special. Despite the girls I've hung around with, I think I've only been in two relationships. Sarah and Kennedy.
who was the last person in your bed?: I think her name was Tiffany. I know she works at the jazz club or she goes there enough to make me think she works for me.
who was your first kiss?: Connie Babbo. I was 6, she was 9. Her kids all work at Bluefin now.
who was your first love?: I can never decide if it was Sarah or Kennedy. It was probably Sarah considering she is the mother of my kid, but sometimes I think Kennedy I did love Kennedy, the way you love as a teenager.
what's your biggest turn on? turn off? Turn on – independence and relaxation. Turn off – high pitched voice, stressed out, clingy, and overemotional.
what exactly is your "type"? what do you look for in the opposite..or the same sex? are you heterosexual or homosexual? I'm heterosexual. I tend to go for brunettes who don't wear a lot of make-up. I like girls with real careers as well.

FAMILY

how close are you to your family?: Well, my parents are both dead. Motherfucking Los Zetas Cartel. I will kill those bastards. Despite that, my brother and I are like glue we're so tight, same with my sister, and extended family. My son is my life. Hell, I've got a couple clients I think of as brothers.
who are you closest to in your family?: Brother, Scott, we used to fight like animals as kids, but grew up to be thick as thieves. Or my son. How could I not be? He's my flesh and blood.
who can't you stand in your family? it's okay, we won't tell anyone: I have some Uncles who talk a lot of shit, but wouldn't toss a grape in a fruit fight. But I tolerate them.
what is your relationship like with your mother? father?: It doesn't exist anymore, but we were always close. They valued family, my father worked hard, but loved us even harder and my mother was just a gem. They don't make 'em like they used to.
how old were your parents when they met? how old was your mother when she had you?I think they were both just twenty. My mom was a seamstress and he was buying his first suit for his first business meeting. He wanted a loan so he could open up the Birdland. They were married six months later. I think she was twenty-four when I was born. I could be mistaken, though.
THIS OR THAT
fight or flight?: Fight. I don't walk away from things, I sort them out.
milk or soda?: Neither. Double malt scotch.
cat or dog?: I'm allergic to both.
library or club?: Club. I like to read, but clubs are my domain.

LAST..

text message, from who: “West Battery Park. Red ball cap. 8 PM.” unknown number.
fully played song on your ipod: Refugee – Tom Petty
food that you ate: Atlantic salmon and wild rice.
person you hugged? kissed?: Tanner, both.
movie that you watched: Gangs of New York. The original. None of this Cameron Diaz shit.
person that you said i love you to: Tanner.
illegal thing that you did: Paid for some information that, maybe, isn't mine to know.
illegal thing that you did: see above.
significant change in your life: Parents murdered.
SELF
tell us something that you want to change about yourself? If I wanted to change something about myself, I would. I just haven't yet. Perhaps, I'd like to be better at banking, but so far, I'm alright.
everyone has a big achievement, what's yours? what's your biggest regret? Not dropping out of school was a big deal since most of my friends joined gangs by sixteen. I'm also pretty damn proud of my son. Biggest regret? I don't have too many at the moment. I'll get back to you.
did you see yourself having this kind of life five years ago? where do you think you will be in five or even ten years from now? Five years ago I was twenty, I didn't think I'd have a kid or being running my dad's businesses. I didn't think my parents would be dead. You know, I don't mind my life despite it's rough edges. Five or ten years, I'll be doing the same thing or I'll be in jail. Maybe, I'll be more successful. I'll be the parent of an eight year old or thirteen year old. That's how I'll identify myself.
anything else that you feel we should know about you? any dirty little secrets? Stay out of my business, do as I ask, we'll all get along just fine. I scratch your back, you scratch mine.
